Transport Manager - Full Time - Posted July 2019 - Position Filled

Job Overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced high calibre Transport Manager to manage our expanding coach hire business. We are a growing company with a staff of 35 people and a fleet of 15 vehicles, operating across commuter services, tours and corporate hire
Reporting to the CEO, this is a responsible and varied role which would suit someone who wishes to make a strong impact and progress within a thriving road passenger transport company
The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for managing our drivers, fleet quality and scheduling vehicle maintenance (which is outsourced to external dealerships)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage our team of drivers – recruitment, training, performance monitoring, driver’s hours and tachograph regulation compliance.
• Manage the recording, prioritising, scheduling and efficient outsourcing of vehicle maintenance activities – daily and six weekly checks, servicing, body repairs, daily defects and accidents.
• Ensure all vehicles have required certification e.g. tachograph calibration, PSV, speed limiter calibration, CVRT, insurance, road tax. Keeping all vehicle files up to date and ensuring paperwork complies with legislative requirements.
• Managing vehicle systems - GPS, WIFI, Destination Signs, CCTV, Telematics and Ticket Machines
• Insurance Claims –managing the process from start to finish – completing accident report forms with drivers, following up with Insurance provider, managing costs, analysing cctv footage, etc.
• Monitor and manage driving behaviour, style and fuel consumption through telematics systems
• Manage the company Health & Safety policy and be the main point of contact for safety related matters
• Assisting the CEO in the acquisition and selling of vehicles
• Responsible for managing and improving vehicle, service and driver quality standards
• Negotiate contracts with maintenance providers and adhering to maintenance budgets
• Act as the ultimate point of contact for driver and vehicle related queries and issues, accidents, safety and vehicle related audits

• A minimum of 3-5 years recent experience in a Transport or Fleet Management role
• Experience managing people
• Third level qualification in Management, Transport or Supply Chain or equivalent
• Skilled in influencing, negotiation and problem solving.
• Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills
• Good IT skills with experience using telematics and fleet management and maintenance systems.
• Ability to work efficiently in a high pressured transport environment and make crucial judgement calls.
• Positive can do attitude, interpersonally effective with the ability to influence people positively.
• Experienced in effectively monitoring quality and performance
• Experience working with third parties such as garages, insurance companies and relevant transport regulatory bodies.

• Daily walk around vehicle checks
• Fuelling, cleaning and washing vehicles
• Collecting fares, printing and checking tickets


• Full D Category Driving Licence
• CPC Qualifications
• Digital Tachograph card
• Be available to work weekends / early starts
• Have fluent English
• Positive attitude, outgoing personality and strong customer service skills
• Coach driving experience an advantage but not critical
